Martlets Place 5th

The Westminster Boys’ Swim Team had a fantastic Founders’ League Championship with multiple school records set, a Founders’ League record set, and many, many season and personal best times. The Boys’ began the meet strong with a 7th place finish in the 200 Medley relay (team composed of: Benjamin Yu ‘28, John Dwyer ‘26, Will Larock ‘26, and Jesse Yang ‘27). Following up his performance in the medley relay, Larock accomplished a top 16 finish in the 200 Freestyle with a season best time of 1:59.80. Matt O’Connell ‘25 also accomplished a seven second personal best time in this event (2:12.06). After the 200 Freestyle, John Dwyer took to the blocks for his 200 Yard IM. In this event, Dwyer accomplished an amazing time of 1:55.47. This time is a four second season best time for Dwyer and earned him an impressive second place finish. Dwyer’s time in the 200 IM is also a new school record, breaking his own school record from last year. After Dwyer’s 200 IM, the 50 Freestyle saw another highlight for the boys’ team with Reggie Kanu earning a podium third place finish with a season best time of 22.04. Jesse Yang also placed within the top 10 (23.98). 

In the back half of the meet, Sam Hyde earned a 13th place finish in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a season best time of 1:02.38. The 100 Freestyle saw strong swims from Yang (11th place in a time of 53.12) and Filip Tomic ‘25 with a two second personal best time of 1:00.77. The 500 Freestyle saw Larock earn another top 16 finish (13th place) in a season best time of 5:17.37 (a twelve second drop from his previous best time this season). O’Connell also saw a huge personal leap, beating his personal best time by over thirty seconds (6:15.19). 

The 100 Backstroke was a phenomenal swim by John Dwyer. John Dwyer earned a 1st place finish in an astounding time of 51.61. This time is a new school record and a new Founders’ League Record. Many congratulations to Dwyer for this accomplishment! 

The 100 Backstroke also saw Yu earn a 10th place finish in a time of 1:01.34. After the Backstroke, Kanu took to the blocks to accomplish an impressive fourth place finish in the 100 Breaststroke in a time of 1:02.16 (a season best time for Kanu). Tomic saw another best time as well in this event (1:31.03). 

The Boys’ wrapped up this fantastic day of swimming with a 7th place finish in the 4 x 100 Freestyle Relay (team composed of: Benjamin Yu, Jesse Yang, Will Larock, John Dwyer). 

Overall, many of our boys saw tremendous personal bests and improvements at this meet. The Boys have worked hard all season and should be so proud of their efforts paying off! 

We are looking ahead to the final meet of the season, New England Championships on March 8th in Stamford, CT.
